David Beckham admits he 'loves' being a stay-at- home father

Many men take it for granted they will always be their family’s main breadwinner.

Luckily for David Beckham, wife Victoria is an ambitious career woman so he can finally afford to take a back seat.

Seven months after retiring from professional football, David has revealed he is now a proud ‘house-husband’ who spends his time cooking for his children and doing the school run.

Despite having been one of the world’s highest-paid sportsmen with annual earnings of £16million, the 38-year-old said he ‘loves’ staying at home while his wife concentrates on her fashion business.

Asked by chat show host Jonathan Ross whether that makes him a house-husband, he said: ‘I really am. But I love it. I’ve been lucky, I’ve always been able to take the boys to school in the mornings and pick them up and make them dinner and things like that. So I do even more of that.

‘I’m able to take all three of the boys to school and then I take Harper to her school for a few hours and then pick her up. I’m kind of like a driver at the moment, I’m always in the car.’

The Beckhams – who together are worth an estimated £190million – moved to London with their four children at the end of last year as he wound down his footballing career.

He enjoyed a brief spell with French club Paris Saint-Germain before finally hanging up his boots in May.

When they married in 1999, Mr Beckham was one of the biggest sports stars on the planet, while his wife – then known as Posh Spice - was reaching the end of her pop career.

Since then, however, the 39-year-old has flourished in her own right as a fashion designer. Last year, her company Beckham Ventures turned over more than £15million.
