Kayihura shuffles senior police officers

Kampala
The Inspector General of Police, Major General Kale Kayihura, has transferred the Director of Police Operations, Mr Francis Rwego, to International Police and Peacekeeping Mission Directorate as the head. The department is based in Kampala.

Mr Rwego has been replaced by Mr Fredrick Kiyaga, who has been the director of Interpol in Uganda, according to a radio sent to staff yesterday. Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba confirmed the transfer but said there was nothing unusual about it. “The transfer is a normal deployment,” Ms Nabakooba said yesterday.
The operations director is ranked third in the hierarchy of the Uganda Police Force and manages all police stations in the country. Mr Kiyaga was the head of Police Anti-terrorism Unit before he was transferred to Interpol. The appointments will be effected immediately.
