Kenya’s top model and humanitarian Ciru Maina has been appointed
Beauty of Rwanda Ambassador. She will be the face of a campaign to
better the lives of rural Rwandan women and their families through the
selling of their arts and crafts.
Beauty of Rwanda is a UK-based organisation working to change the lives of impoverished Rwandans.
Their vision is to sell Rwandan artifacts to people in the West with a mission to alleviate poverty among Rwandans, many of whom are widows of the 1994 genocide; others are victims of rape some of whom are now HIV positive.
“I am honoured to be an ambassador for such a worthwhile cause, I’m an African and I would like to help the Rwandans in this instance and encourage other Africans around the world create a better life for themselves through their skills,” said Ciru.
Nairobi-born Ciru is rapidly joining the ranks of a new generation of African supermodels such as Alek Wek, Ajuma, Lyia Kebede and Kiara as she was recently listed among the top black supermodels of the world by influential American fashion website Ebony Glam. She has gained prestigious international assignments and recognition.
Ciru is also the subject of a new celebrity filled book currently being shot at beautiful locations around the world including India and Brazil.
