At least 80 people have been admitted at Mulago hospital with injuries they sustained this morning during city riots.
One person was shot dead by a stray bullet as Police and the army battled rioters in different parts of the city center.
The deceased is only identified as Ssemugga, a vendor at Channel Street next to St. Balikuddembe market.
Uganda Red Cross secretary general, Micheal Nataka, has told
reporters at Mulago that ten sustained live bullet wounds. Others, he
added, inhaled too much teargas.
He said one of the injured is a ten-year- old child and pregnant woman identified as Patricia Namugomya.
According to Nataka, today's riot was the most disastrous because
most the roads were closed and they could not have access to Mulago
hospital.
Meanwhile normalcy has returned to the city although some shops are still closed.
The rioters are protesting the manner in which FDC leader, Kizza
Besigye, was arrested and teargased yesterday and the rising cost of
living.
