Childcare support for new employees

As an employer in the borough I am sure you are only too well aware of the barrier that the high cost of childcare can be for parents who want to work. Southwark's Childcare Affordability Programme aims to support parents back into sustainable employment by helping to cover the costs of their childcare through subsidising childcare placements.

Many local employers offer inductions and promote local services when new staff join their company and I write in the hope that you will consider taking this opportunity to include information about our scheme in induction packs for new employees or in any discussions with new staff about the financial support they may be entitled to.

To be eligible for support, parents should:
  • be a Southwark resident
  • have a child aged between 0-14 (or 0-18 for children with disabilities or special educational needs)
  • be returning to work for 16 hours a week or more or increasing their work hours (from part-time to full time, or returning from maternity leave)

- have had a household income below £20,000 in the last 12 months (although there is no restriction on the size of salary for the job the parent is about to start)

Funding is also available to some parents for additional costs such as travel expenses and clothing for work.

If you would like additional information about the scheme, or would like us to send you posters or flyers advertising the Childcare Affordability Programme for either clients/customers or employees please contact the Southwark Childcare Support Scheme using the details provided below:
