Mobile marketing is set to receive a huge boost if speculation that Facebook is poised to launch location-based functionality as early as this month is true. For many Facebook users, location-based social networking will be a new experience but it already has a small but growing fanbase, through sites such as Foursquare, Gowalla and MyTown, which encourage users to update and share their location – at bars, restaurants and various other nightspots - with friends.
